COVID-19 - Using Food (Nutritional Supplements) to Fight It

In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, I was very skeptical pinning hopes on the widespread search on the development of vaccines and finding antiviral drugs to fight  the coronavirus infection. My skepticism stems from my distrust on potential effectiveness and the possibility of adverse effects of the to-be vaccines or antiviral drugs, as has already been described elsewhere as well as briefly and in general, earlier on in my previous  two most recent posts, in particular with reference to therapeutic prescription drugs. However, there is no need for despair, as there is some light at the end of the tunnel, at least on what I believe in (i.e. natural health), with some innovative professionals, already on board in search for  the best strategies to fight COVID-19. These professionals are jumping  on hoard  with a different lens from that of the biomedical model approach (based on the germ theory of disease), as they pursue the natural health/medicine approach str...

Health Tips - Protecting and Strengthening Your Immune System Matters

In my most recent post titled, “ Health and Survival Tips: Lessons from the COVID-19 Pandemic” I focused my commentary on adverse effects of prescription drugs on the immune system in humans. The current post adds more facts to similar views, although this time around it tends to highlight  the fact that even commonly used over the counter pain medications have been found adversely affect  the immune system against viral infections. These include Aspirin, Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen, which have been studded at the University of Adelaide in Australia. Details of the study are available at: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2172402    With the awareness that such pain medications have adverse effects on our immune system, it’s time to look beyond  the medical model on management of pain using drugs, and give it a try for the Alternative Medical/Natural Health approach which uses healthy foods and nutritional supplements (e.g magnesium, zinc, vitamin D, vitami...

Health and Survival Tips: Lessons from the COVID-19 Pandemic

One of the most frequent question featuring on the internet on the coronavirus pandemic is: “” Why are some Covid-19 patients asymptomatic? ” See article at: ( https://www.inverse.com/mind-body/why-are-some-people-asymptomatic   ) To that question scientists and experts have two main opinions, one pointing to the characteristics of the virus(infectiousness and viral load) on old aged people and those with certain underlying chronic disease conditions, and the other pointing to the host ’s defense mechanism (innate immunity defense system ).   Most scientists and experts aligned to governments and policy making institutions lean towards the view of a focus on COVID-19 old-age related infectivity and underlying-disease related infectivity , as being most likely responsible for the variations in manifestations of the disease in people and/or populations, drive their interventions measures to focus on finding drugs and vaccines to fight the enemy (COVID-19).  I however tend...
