Getting better informed on health issues

Although I am not really a fan of current methodologies used to establish medical or public health evidence (in the hierarchy of evidence pyramid), in some instances they can provide helpful or valuable information. Below is a link highlighting how meta-analysis studies revealed medical reversals, and also explains discrepancies in the meta-analysis approaches, especially on nutritional supplements interventions. Taking Charge of Our Own Health - Practical and Achievable

For many people, the  thought of taking charge of one’s own health sounds scary, remote and unachievable, bearing in mind that our conventional health care providers (in particular physicians) undergo a very extensive training program to gain the medical and related health care provider status, and yet, they still face a multitude of challenges to keep us health. S o  what is the underlying magic for an ordinary person to achieve this? We can answer this by drawing parallels to 3 scenarios of health care within the animal kingdom (1. Humans, 2, Domesticated/captive Animals and 3. Wild Animals). A closer look at health care provision for the three scenarios provides us with the answer as to how taking charge of one’s own health is practical and achievable. Humans rely on highly trained physician and other health care pro fessionals  to counter ill-health, obviously with some challenges; Domesticated and Captive animals rely on highly trained veterinarians and other anim...

Food Matters: Getting your nutrients for optimum health from foods alone may not be realistic.

Consider intake of  omega 3 fatty acids for optimum health ranging between 1.1 - 1.6 g/d in adult humans. It is very unlikely to meet these omega 3 intake needs from even the highest sources of omega 3 nutrient rich foods. Check the links: https://www.peelregion.ca/health/eatfish/howmuch/index.htm  & https://www.seafoodhealthfacts.org/seafood-nutrition/healthcare-professionals/omega-3-content-frequently-consumed-seafood-products This can help us to understand why we need nutritional supplements to meet the body's demands for optimum health. moreover, demands for nutrients vary with the status of the body's activity (level of physical activity, health status - fighting disease, etc.). It is also worthwhile to note that we can only realize the effectiveness of food in preventing disease and maintaining optimum health when optimum nutrient levels are achieved in the body.

Getting Started With Use of Alternative /Holistic Approaches to Health

In some of my previous posts, I presented the main distinguishing features on comparative overview of the two main medical and health care paradigms, and also why people are increasingly using alternative approaches for their health and well-being. Revisiting the table which I presented on comparison of the two main medical and related health care paradigms, you will note that under objectives of each paradigm, the focus on the conventional medical approach is to cure and mitigate disease (requires trained professionals), and the focus of the alternative/holistic health approach is to promote optimal health and as a by-product, to prevent and treat disease(Inputs can be from trained professionals as well as personal-driven/individual-driven). With the alternative/holistic approaches, people are empowered to take charge of their own health, a practice not realized in the conventional medical approaches. The big deal The reason why modalities in alternative/holistic approaches to he...
