Getting Started With Use of Alternative /Holistic Approaches to Health
In some of my previous posts, I presented the main distinguishing features on comparative overview of the two main medical and health care paradigms, and also why people are increasingly using alternative approaches for their health and well-being. Revisiting the table which I presented on comparison of the two main medical and related health care paradigms, you will note that under objectives of each paradigm, the focus on the conventional medical approach is to cure and mitigate disease (requires trained professionals), and the focus of the alternative/holistic health approach is to promote optimal health and as a by-product, to prevent and treat disease(Inputs can be from trained professionals as well as personal-driven/individual-driven). With the alternative/holistic approaches, people are empowered to take charge of their own health, a practice not realized in the conventional medical approaches.
The big deal
The reason why modalities in alternative/holistic approaches to health allow for people to take charge of their own health is that it involves lifestyle changes, certainly with nutrition playing the most crucial role in influencing our health, vitality and wellness. To that effect, nutrition or food as one of the most important major determinant of health, is considered and used as medicine in alternative/holistic medicine and related health care modalities. Personally, I am very strongly inclined to the use of food as medicine. On that note, I would like to believe that we all agree that we are largely in charge of the choices of what we eat, and therefore taking charge of our own health is feasible and achievable. Getting started with use of alternative/holistic approaches to health and getting in charge of our own health begins with some of the reasons provided in the previous post dealing with why people are increasingly using alternative/holistic approaches for their health and well-being.
